Blue Topaz Twist Bucket Hat

A little creative challenge for me today. I've been wanting to list this Twist Bucket hat but just couldn't put my finger on the right name for it. I didn't want another 'Sky' name added to the mix yet every other shade of blue just didn't fit right. Oddly enough a Mystic Fire Topaz ring on Google put me on track to looking up Blue Topaz. Good ol' Google wanderings right?

If you'd like to check it out on Etsy click >here<

Just a little P.S. I ordered my new camera yesterday -happy dance- I can't wait!!!

Fresh Spring Slouchy Hat

It's Monday and you know what that means! New item has just been listed!!! New slouchy hat (yes I've sooo been on a kick with making these). Took me awhile to think of the name. When I first started I thought 'Grass Stain Slouchy' which upon further thought didn't seem all that appealing :P So Fresh Spring it is! As always it's 100 % cotton which means it's sturdy and machine washable! Also stretches a little so you can get it for your teen or wear it yourself.
Wow I'm pretty hyper...not sure if you can tell by my typing but I am. Probably because I had two pop tarts and a Pepsi as my breakfast. Bad I know but end of the week with no food does that. I really have to go shopping later :P
Anyway, random side-tracking there...if you'd like to see this new hat click on this link >here< aaand I'll be back with something new tomorrow!
(I feel like cartwheeling away but I'd probably hurt myself)

Is it Lightning, a search light, no it's a....Fireball?

Just thought I'd share the morning headline from Madison, WI with you...

'Brilliant fireball' lit up sky and 911 phone lines across Midwest

That's the image over Madison last night around 10pm. My boyfriend and I were watching tv when suddenly he exlaimed "Omg is that lightning?! I JUST washed my car!"

When I looked over the light had already passed but we went to check the radar away. Not a cloud near us. So we shrugged it off after I suggested maybe a bright search light. This morning-much to my surprise that was the headline...

If you'd like to read the whole article I read here is the link ->http://host.madison.com/news/local/article_e9bce742-4847-11df-8158-001cc4c03286.html

It's never dull here :P

Weird Ways of my Camera

Hi Everyone! Another very spring day making me oh - so - happyyyyy! I woke up this morning and thought 'Hey! I feel like taking some pictures.' I've been on a crafty roll this week, I made three things on Monday alone :3 I didn't take all the shots needed to be able to list online because my boyfriend is usually the one that helps out with that (despite his grumblings about having to do so :P). Doing any of the pictures alone requires me to get a little creative because there isn't many places in my current apartment to shoot in. Two TV trays, a bed sheet and me standing on a tall chair hovering over it later...I was again reminded why I'm saving to get a new camera.

I currently own a Nikon Coolpix S560. It's cute, compact, works fine outside but trying to get consistent low-light/detailed shots is like trying to chew off your own toe. Just in case you are also a crafter and was thinking about getting a camera from that line...:P

Ok check this out. This is a picture of the upcoming Sage Slouchy Hat-same shot, different modes.

The actual color of the hat is the picture on the bottom. It took changing the settings several times until I found a mode that I don't think I've ever used before because it takes several steps just to get to it just to get the hat's actual color to show through. Waaaah!
There is almost enough saved up for me to get my new camera and a tripod (no more having to balance on chairs lol) I'm so excited I can't wait!!! Took about a month to decide on one (since there are actually two I really really want since they do different things but both equally usable for things I'd use them for but I was told it'd be silly to have two cameras :P)
So the day I put up a new post that starts with a 'Squeeeee!' <-my happy noise. You'll know I've finally gotten it :D
I have to run out and get some lunch. I have another project in works for later (seriously I have a stack of new items on my bookcase lol)
Bye for now!

Sky Slouchy Hat

Ahhh back to having a warm sunny day. I read that it's supposed to reach around 77 tomorrow! -happy dance- AND I now have 50 items in my shop...with a lot more coming since I've been crafting non-stop :P
I listed a new hat on Etsy today :) This one is a stripped hat (as you can see) with different shades of blue to go with any outfit you'd like to accessorize it with.
Now going waaaay back to last year when I first opened the store I made a scrunchie called Sky Scrunchie with the same colors as the hat. So, like I've done with the Daisy Hat and Daisy Loops, if you buy this slouchy hat you can get Sky Scrunchie Half off! :)

Summer Slouchy Hat

As I sit at my desk staring at a cloudy day while slightly shivering I posted a new slouchy hat. Summer Slouchy Hat makes me want that nice warm weather back. The colors are so cheerful and bright. I was even able to take this picture outside because it was wonderful out. I hope that weather comes back soon-I hate typing with cold hands :P
Well I have a lot of things to work on, hit a huge yarn sale and stocked up so now I have things in progress already and even more ideas swirling in my head. Expect to see more new things popping up! Haha, my desk is a mess from my doodlings and brainstorms on scrap paper. Gotta love being a crafter :D

Seashore Slouchy Hat

First new item of April is now listed in my shop!
The Seashore Slouchy Hat! I'm growing rather fond of creating this style of hat, I even made an Irish Moss Slouchy Hat for myself since it looks super cute with any greens and brown outfits I wear. Seashore is another favorite, but for a different reason. Most of my items tend to be more on the perky side, nothing wrong with that I love fun colors! But these colors reminded me of sitting on Long Beach back where I grew up in CT. Blue and Brown have been in for awhile now-seems any store I go into you see either brown and blue or brown and pink :P

Squishy Logo

Eek, no post for April yet?! Well it's only the 5th and last week was spring break. WONDERFUL weather in Wisconsin...those two things usually don't go together in March/April. Decided to get down to business this weekend though, I had a whole pile of new items that needed finishing touches and pictures taken. Ended up with 6 new items ready for listings. Not finished editing all the photos but I will be soon.

Today I realized with Easter over and no other holidays coming up I had to face the fact that I really needed to work on a non-seasonal logo. Luckily, I woke up with my brain on overdrive and I came up with several good ones pretty quickly. It's now on this blog and on Etsy. Simple, but I think it pops and suits the personality of myself and the store. :) The biggest excitement though was creating a business card and getting an order in. Can't tell you how many times I've ended up mentioning my shop or Etsy and wishing I had something to show people. They should arrive next week, so I'll be doing a happy dance then :P

Oh right! All items have been renewed in the store, but I renewed by section so if you look around you might see some things you didn't before because they were in the back (so to speak). Other than that I'll be getting those new items up this month so don't miss out!

That's all for now, I have a great new summer item in the works right now which I'll be getting to after dinner.

Toodles for now!

Irish Moss Slouchy Hat

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!!! Remember the FREE SHIPPING sale lasts until Midnight tonight so if any of my green items that are part of the sale has caught your eye snap it up while the offer lasts!
Speaking of green items, I added one more yesterday! Another slouchy hat that screams spring is here (bout time). It also has brown, yellow and white in the mix (as you can see). The cool thing about the design is that it actually works as a beret too, so mix it up with your own personal style and have fun!

Greenland Slouchy Hat

Happy Monday everyone! It is GORGEOUS here in Wisconsin today, not a cloud in sight, sunny and pretty warm for Wisconsin in March. I actually put my winter jacket away!
Great day to introduce a new style of hat to the Squishy Shop, the Greenland Slouchy Hat. Took quite a while to find the right name for this hat but I stumbled across a really pretty and unique tulip with green and pink stripes in it.
This hat can be worn in the regular slouchy style, but I also discovered after making it that it looks pretty cool as a beret style hat too.
Once again my bombay mix, Hexadecimal, wanted to help me model this hat so we are the cover picture for this hat on Etsy. She's so cute, but not for sale with the hat :P I try to keep her away from all items but she is a very clean cat so unless you have SUPER strong allergies to cats there should be no worries! If you'd like to see this hat on Etsy click >here<

Here is the flower this hat is named after, it's so pretty I had to save a picture.

Mint Twist Bucket Hat

It's another Monday and that means something new at Squishy Products! Today I've listed Mint Twist Bucket Hat. The name speaks for the color twist combo of greens crafted into a spring/summer fashionable hat.

Why is there a cat in the picture you ask? Well that is Hex, my 3 year old Bombay mix. She always tries to help with everything I do. Recently she's been trying to get into all of my shots for each item but since she isn't allowed to touch any of the items (for those who have strong allergies) I never let her.
Well, that hasn't stopped her from trying. Here is a picture of my last listed hat-the Unisex Verdant Hat. She kept trying to find ways to get on camera. So this week I thought I'd include her.

She's been included in one other item as well so look for her cute face again in the future!

Unisex Verdant Hat

Another Unisex Hat! This one is the Verdant hat with some fun colors mixed in.
It's nice and soft with a brim around the edge for extra warmth around the ears.

In other news, with this new hat being part of it, Squishy Products is having a sale on all green items (which have been moved to the top of the store on Etsy) until Midnight, March 17th. Free Shipping on each item! So if there is something you want grab it before it's gone!

Unisex Hazelnut Swirl Hat

I am on a roll this week! Actually, this whole month hasn't been bad as far as getting new items up :) Today I've added another Unisex hat to the store, this one is called Hazelnut Swirl. The size available is a bit bigger than the other colors (it's the same size as the Shadow Hat was), but I'll be making more sizes for them asap.
Speaking of the Unisex Shadow Hat, it sold this week! I'm added it to the list of things to get back in stock along with more size options.
That's all from me today, if you'd like to go to this item on Etsy click >here<

Forest Scarf for Men

Yay! Another item for the guys out there! Not sure how many shop on Etsy but I feel bad that there wasn't much to choose from in my store. So I've been trying to get more unisex and men's fashions available. I figured the hats would come in more handy since the guys I know like hats more than scarves, but I still like to give options :)
This scarf is a nice sage green and mocha brown. It's longer than the Desert Scarf for Men but you can still wear it under the coat for extra warmth.  Ladies if you need to get someone for a man in your life and have no idea what, keep him warm and if he doesn't like it you can always wear it yourself :P

Unisex Maizen Blue Hat

Well the Valentine's Day sale may be over but as a nice treat Squishy Products is having a President's Day Sale! Today only all items are available with Free Shipping! That's not all, a new hat has just been listed as well! Another Unisex style beanie to add to the collection. This one is a nice combo of blues, yellow and a little teal mixed in.
Have a great week everyone!

Heart of Gold Scarf

Heart of Gold Scarf just listed on Etsy. Two nights ago I realized I had put the scarf in my inventory but hadn't actually listed it online! I took pictures of the scarf weeks ago but they didn't come out very good and I had forgotten all about it. :x Now it's up and will be the last scarf listed on sale as part of Squishy's Valentine's Day Sale. Whew.
It's a pretty scarf, unique in that it's the only scarf in my shop that sparkles. The gold flecks in the homespun and the eyelash are shiny. I thought it was a nice touch :)

If you'd like to visit this item on Etsy click >here

Have a great weekend everyone, Enjoy Valentine's Day! I'll be back soon with more new items! :D

Be Mine Floppy Hat

Another item for the Valentine's Sale! Was stuck on a name for a little while but then I thought of those valentine conversation heart candies and remembered some of the colors matched this hat. This is a floppy style like the Neapolitan.

If you'd like to see this item on Etsy click >here<

I'm hoping I'll be able to get a project I've been working on up before the sale is over, I've specially ordered some tools for the project (and projects to come) from a fellow Etsian. Can't wait!
Have a great week!

Top 30 reasons you're not selling by Knotworkshop

Saw this Thread on Etsy Business Forums and thought it was great-so to all you other sellers out there I hope it amuses you as well :)

Knotworkshop says:
I figured I'd list 30 so we'd almost always have one to blame for each new day of the month. If there are 31 days in any given month, just cycle back to number 1.

How to use this list:
Print it out. Cut each number up onto its own little slip of paper. Put them in a jar. Each day when you're wondering why you haven't sold anything, pull a slip of paper out and get your answer.

1) George W. Bush. Yup. Everything's his fault.

2) Barack Obama. Freaking socialist. Screwing up all this wonderful capitalism on Etsy.

3) The economy. Seriously people. Look around. Nobody has a job. Nobody has money. Why do they want your stuff when you have the nerve to charge them money for it in these tough times?

4) Relevancy- need I say more?

5) Recency- need I say more?

6) Resellers. Why would people buy my stuff on Etsy when they can buy Target's products here too? I mean seriously, what do I have that can compete with stuff from Target? It's so much easier for people to buy those things on Etsy than it is to just drive to their local Target.

7) Undercutters. Yes undercutters. I mean you. Everyone has their own reasons for naming a price. But I haven't seen William Shatner here so I'm pretty fricking sure this ain't Priceline. If you want to sell something that took you 22 hours to make for $10, you and I are going to have a problem. I'll meet you outside after school after the bell rings. Alone.

8) The weather. If it's hot, they don't want your stuff. If it's cold, they don't want it either. So strap yourselves in because whatever the season people ain't buyin what you're sellin.

9) Your prices are too high. You think folks want to pay $50 for some yarn tied in a bunch of knots? I don't care if it looks like a hat. It's a bunch of yarn. In knots.

10) Your prices are too low. Hmm. That item looks like a lot of work. Why are you only charging me $5 for it? Oh, probably because you live in a crack house and have swine flu. Yeah, I don't trust it. I'm going to go buy it from someone who will charge me $20 for the same exact thing.

11) People are stupid.

12) The internet is broken. Yes. The whole internet. Call Al Gore. I heard he can fix it.

13) You're never on the front page.

14) You're never in gift guides.

15) You're never a featured seller.

16) You're never in Etsy finds.

17) No one liked you in high school.

18) They don't like you here either.

19) People need to see your items in person to appreciate them. Okay, maybe not that underwear made out of cream corn, but you know what I'm saying.

20) You have your items on a gasp, real person, in your listing photos. I mean, come on. That necklace was completely sterile and free of all bacteria until you let it touch that ugh, HUMAN! Now it's no good. Sorry. Game over.

21) You are not showing your items on a human. How can I tell if those panties will look good on me when the mannequin doesn't have a spotty arse like mine? It's false advertising.

22) Your photos are too dark. Yes, yes, I know you're selling a lamp that glows in the dark. But still, your photos are just way too dark dude.

23) You need more items in your shop. Would you keep going back to Home Depot if they only had six flashlights and a pile of shingles in stock? I thought not.

24) You have too many items in your shop. I mean really, those huge stores like Walmart with tons and tons of items in tons and tons of different categories are never going to be successful. Nobody looks past the first five aisles. Oh, uh, wait...

25) Your items are aimed at too narrow of a market. I'm sure if there were more professional football players from Tasmania shopping on Etsy your tasmanian football helmets would be doing much, much better. Honest.

26) You have to go find your target market. No, I'm not going to tell you who they are or how you'll recognize them, but trust me, you have to find them. And fast.

27) Don't rely on Etsy to make your shop successful. I mean, I know we're on Etsy, and we pay money to Etsy and are here because it's well, Etsy. But yeah, don't count on them for a thing. If anything, pretend like they're working against you. You'll be better off.

28) It's a slow time of year. Maybe not for everyone else, but for you, that's the time of year it is.

29) You haven't built up enough momentum. So take all your inventory in your arms, put it in a shopping cart and send it down a hill to get some momentum going. Report back in the forums after the sales start rolling in.

30) You're not in the US. Just because people in your own country wouldn't buy it, doesn't mean that Americans are dumb enough to (hard to believe, I know).

Unisex Autumn Spice Hat

A little late blogging about this, but on Tuesday a new hat was listed on Etsy. I thought it would be nice to get more unisex hats up so keep an eye out because I went on a little hat making spree :P
Autumn Spice hat has green, orange-yellow, and blue mixed in with the rich red. Also features a brim around the ears for extra warmth and comfort :)

Neapolitan Floppy Hat

This hat is adorable (if I may say so myself :P)! When I started making this hat the color pattern seemed familiar, then it hit me...it looked like those boxes of strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate ice cream I remembered as a kid. I pointed this out to my boyfriend who said "Oh a Neapolitan." And that's how this hat got it's name. I wanted to make this hat a little different from other styles already available in my shop so what started out as a bucket hat turned into a floppy hat when I added the cute scalloped edge, thought it gave it the perfect final touches :)

If you like this hat and would like to check it out in my Etsy shop just click >here<

Oh and did I mention that Squishy Products is having a sale until Valentine's Day? That's right! All pink and red items are 15% off (prices have been adjusted for your convenience) I've moved all the sale prices to the top of the list so they can be found right away :)

Have a great week everyone!

Rose Twist Bucket Hat

Super cute bucket hat now on Etsy! Rose Twist is a spiraling yarn of white and soft pink. I thought it was pretty cute and since my last bucket style hat sold before winter figured I should probably make a new one to put up :P
There is a women's size large in stock however, I do take size requests. All you have to do is tell me what your measurements (or the measurements of who you want it for) and I'll get one made and sent out (please allow couple extra days so product can be made).

Caribbean Water Fantasy Scarf

New scarf listed today! It's about that time of year when a vacation in the Caribbean sounds just wonderful doesn't it? With help from my mother this scarf was named Caribbean Water Fantasy. Whenever I see pictures of under water fantasy pictures the violets and blues always seem to pop out at me. Thought this scarf was a very pretty combination of those two colors :)

Water Lily Bliss Scarf

Today's new scarf was inspired by a painter. Monet's Water Lilies painting has such nice colors in it that when I started a new scarf I felt myself being drawn to this color combination.
This scarf is a skinny (width) medium (length) scarf  and would probably work if you want a scarf for someone young, something pretty that can grow with you :)

I had noticed a lot of my scarves were on the warmer side of the color spectrum so I've started looking for cooler colors for those of you who prefer a more tranquil, soft color style. Hope you like :)

Balsam Frost Scarf

This poor scarf, I made it before the holidays then got sick and never made it to the photos part of the process. Well I finally did it and couldn't wait to get it up so here it is!
I always love the fir type of trees that stay green in the winter but get covered in snow. That's what inspired me to find these colors and put them together to create a scarf.
I got a lot more new items finished today so I'll have quite a few things to put up!

If you are interested in this scarf click >here< for it's store link. Enjoy and Goodnight!

Squishy News 2010!

Well 2009 is over. Hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and vacation time.
I had fun, got some gift cards to JoAnn which always comes in handy ;)
Pretty sure my cat got more spoiled than I did :P She got a pirate ship she can play in, black sails with a kitty skull n crossbones and everything (course I don't think real pirates had a jingle ball you could bat around).
How did you all do? Anyone get some interesting or awesome gifts?

I'm a little behind with new store items, I have been making things, just having problems getting good pictures done. Either there has been no light around here or glaring uneven light. Hopefully I'll have something new for next week though :)
Breakfast time for me! Have a craftastic day everyone!

1 Day til Christmas...

No more mail until after Christmas, I received an order on Monday which promptly went to the post office.

Unfortunately, I got sick at the final stretch of Christmas shopping and wasn't able to get the rest of my seasonal items up in my store. At least I'll have a head start for next year's Christmas items.

Today has been quiet, watched a couple movies and opened the first round of presents. My cat, Hexadecimal, got a pirate ship from my friend's mother. She seems more interested in her mouse toys and little snacks for now.

Time to go, having some good ol' Chinese food order in for dinner tonight.
Merry Christmas Eve!

Snowy Squishy News

It's snowing! Good ol' Wisconsin finally kicked into gear after a very mild summer. This week we are supposed to get over a foot of snow. I have pictures from last year's winter. I remember going out and getting the best coat for WI ever lol. It's so long/big it's almost like a sleeping bag you can walk around in :P Of course I have big winter boots but you can't see them in the snow. My dog loves it! We went out this morning for his walk and he started rolling around. I'm sure he'll be super happy tonight when we go out and there is a lot more snow to play in.
I'll have to get new pictures once this storm passes. I hope the rest of you who also live in WI stay warm this week (hey I have plently of scarves to help with that :P )!

A Merry Little Christmas Scarf

17 days til Christmas! Can you believe it? Today's new item is A Merry Little Christmas Scarf. You won't believe how wonderfully warm and soft this scarf is. I combined the softest materials to create this. This cheerful scarf is red and white with a hint of gold. It'll make a great holiday gift for anyone or for yourself :)

Holly Jolly Scarf

Happy Monday! Today I've posted a jolly scarf, it's very cheery and festive. It has a nice green homespun with gold in it with fuzzy red fur all around it, I thought it was a nice Christmasy mix.

Woke up pretty early to find the ground covered in white. There isn't much yet but the weather forecast says we are supposed to get over a foot this week :O It's a good thing I have all these scarves. :P
Of course in Wisconsin when the snow comes so does the frigid cold, had to find my winter boots and my jacket which might looks kinda like a sleeping bag you can walk around in-it's so awesome :D.

Anyway, I have a shipment of yarn coming in soon and more holiday scarves almost ready for sale so there will be a lot more coming soon!

Unisex Shadow Hat

Finally got my first winter hat for the season up! This hat is pretty stretchy, my own head is 22in around and my friend is 24in around and it fit both nicely. The brim around it is good for keeping ears nice and warm :) It's also stripy, which I didn't notice until about half way through making it. The whole thing is black but it's mixed with brown and white to give it a pretty cool look.

Click >here< to see it on Etsy.
